Does anyone know an effective way to draw allenes? I want the central carbon atom to be a dot, not the letter C. As it stands now I need to manually move a second alkene close to another alkene and then put in a large period. In other words its a hassle.

Any ideas?

Which version of ChemDraw and which OS are you using? In ChemDraw 12 Ultra on Windows I can draw an allene e.g. propa-1,2-diene, right-click on the central carbon and choose Edit Label, and type a bullet character (Alt-0149) and I get a dot. It's not quite in line with the double bonds but you might be able to adjust the font etc to get it to look nice.

The 3D hotlink window, or Structure-to-Name, show me that ChemDraw is still interpreting the molecule correctly.
