Test: Create a Chemdraw for Excel workbook. Copy it to a SMB-style file share (not. w eb-dav/sharepoint).

Try opening it from the file share. (Chemdraw V13 or V14).

Chemdraw for Excel assumes that your chemdraw excel add-ins (chemdrawExce13.xla or chemdrawExce14.xla) are located on where the file is (on the file share) instead of on the user's computer.

When you open the file you get the error:

This workbook contains links to other data sources.

o If you update the links, Excel will attempt to retrieve the latest data.
o If you don’t update the links, Excel will use the previous information.
Note that data links can be used to access and share confidential information without your permission and possibly perform other harmful actions. Do not update the links if you do not trust the source of this workbook.

Update links => At best -structures can't be editted. At worst, Excel hangs and you have to kill the task.

Edit Links => try to point it back to where chemdrawExce14.xla is in program files --> fails.

If you get to the point where you can see the chemdraw-enabled sheet, and then click on the drawing you get:

Cannot run the macro "\\server\share\folder\Program Files()x86)\CambridgeSoft2014\ChemDraw for Excel\ChemDrawExcel14.xla!Excecute "1003", 0". The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled.

We are on ChemOffice V13 and have the same problem.

Is no one else experiencing this problem?

I have the same issue on ChemDrawExcel14. Have you found a solution. It is very frustrating. Typically my files will show either a link to the local .xla file or it will show 2 links one to the non-existent .xla file on the server and the other to the local xla. Only files that have the one link to the local .xla file work as expected,
