Answer:

You can find qualified versions of MS Office and Adobe software in E-Notebook release documentation.

As of today, the most recent version of Reader which has been qualified with E-Notebook 12.1.x is 10.1.3. To use that, you need to have E-Notebook patch 12.1.4. This patch has also been qualified with MS Office 2007 SP3.

When trying to Export or render any experiment to PDF in E-Notebook v12.1 on our VM testbed installation, the following error is returned "Sorry, Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation". I have checked the existing Tech Notes on this error but have not been successful finding the source of the problem.

You can try repairing (or even re-installing from scratch without updates) Acrobat (or Reader - whatever is installed) and MS Office.

If doesn't help, please create a ticket using our Support Case Portal, and specify your exact versions of Operating System, MS Office, and Acrobat/Reader.

Thank you. Good news to report this morning. The particular VM installation had both Office 2003 and Office 2007 installed. I uninstalled Office 2003 for simplicity and closer match to our production. When I tried to add an Office Excel section type to an experiment, I received a file incompatibility error that would not terminate without killing the application. At that point I installed Office 2007 Service Pack 3. After the service pack installation, I was now able to add the Office section types and, rendering seems to be operational.

There is one additional step that I had to follow after installing the Office 2007 Service Pack. I had to reinstall Adobe Acrobat reader. I chose version 9.5 of Adobe Acrobat reader which worked perfectly to view the rendered output.
